Plowing Through Life: All In The Family (1)

So here we are, ready to take on a brand new year. I hope that the holidays were good to all of you. Perhaps you got together with family. Got a special gift from Santa (a.k.a Parent, child, sibling, partner, relative etc...) Caught up on some sleep. Visited with friends. No matter what you did, I hope it brought you joy.

I did all of the above, and must say that it was one of the nicest holidays in a long time. I must have been a really good girl in 2012, because Santa included some photography-related gifts when he dropped by our home. Unbeknownst to him, I even managed to snap a photo. Yes, of Santa. Here it is:

Not quite what I expected. No cheeks like roses or nose like a cherry. No beard as white as snow, although there?s some greying going on in the hair. No pipe held tight in his teeth, and no round belly that shakes like a bowlful of jelly when he laughs. Well, you get the picture. But, quite the handsome devil, don?t you think? I think so.

Anyhow.

We spent Christmas Eve at home, which was wonderful, but the highlight of the holiday was our trip to Montreal the next day and the day after where we got a chance to visit with family and friends. I?d like to share some photos with you and introduce you to the most important people in our lives. I?ve divided this post into two parts so as not to overwhelm you with all the images.

Let?s start with my home on Christmas Eve...

First, there?s my 15-year-old daughter who lives with us in Kingston. She is a very beautiful, sensitive and affectionate child that is the youngest member of the family on my side.

She has developed a huge love of knitting and she is very creative, and because of that, her wish this year was to receive lots and lots of yarns, knitting needles, and assorted arts and crafts supplies. Santa decided to oblige. And young daughter was very pleased.

Next is the most amazing man in the world. He is kind, loving, gentle, patient, thoughtful and understanding. So much so that I decided to marry him. And we are living happily ever after.

It is almost impossible to present a gift to him on any occasion because he doesn?t really want anything. He has everything he needs, he says, and would rather be generous toward the people he loves.

?

Up next are our four-legged members. You didn?t think I?d forget about them, did you?

First, there?s our black cat, Nacho. She was adopted from the local humane society on January 2, 2010. She is our New Year cat! She is a quirky feline with a lot of personality, and the gentlest, friendliest temperament.

Mocha is also a rescue cat from our local humane society. She is a little fearful but very sweet, and particularly enjoys curling up on my lap to be petted.

We move on to the ferrets, the most docile, quietest, sweetest animals I have ever had in my home. Technically, they are my daughter?s pets, but because I provide a lot of the care, I am just as attached to them. People don?t know much about ferrets, so there are a lot of misconceptions. I have written a lot about these critters on this blog; you can find those posts by clicking on the blog label ?ferrets?.

First, there?s Bailey. We picked him up in August of 2009, only two months after we moved to Kingston. He is simply adorable, and he showers me with ferrety kisses when I pick him up and bring him close to my face.

Next is Spaz. He is just as gentle as Bailey, and just as adorable. I call him my little polar bear because of his white coat and chunky body.

And there you have it...our Kingston family. Now, let?s all get in the car and head over to Montreal where you can meet the rest of the clan. In tomorrow?s post...
