JFK 50 ? Telstar, the dawn of satellite communications | The Scoop ...

NASA technicians had success with two satellites,?Telstar and Relay, during the first week of the new year.
?Two tiny satellites spoke from out space Thursday,? UPI reported.
Telstar?s handlers immediately planed another series of live telecasts between the US and Europe when the satellite ? which and gone silent five weeks early ? bounced back to life. Relay, transmitted a television test pattern for the first time since its Dec. 13 launch.
And, Dr. Walter A. MacNair, director of the Telstar program, was set to speak to a Dallas Council on World Affairs dinner Jan. 17 at the Baker Hotel.

? In other news of the week, Stan Musial, 42, signed his 22nd contract with the St. Louis Cardinals;and Rogers Hornsby, baseball?s Rajah of Swat, died of a heart attack at 66.
