Ex-SC Gov. Sanford announces run for Congress

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) ? Former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford says it's time to stop apologizing for his affair with an Argentine woman and start talking about his run for Congress.

Sanford said Wednesday he is seeking the state's 1st District seat along the coast because he wants to restore what he calls "fiscal sanity" to the nation's finances.

The Republican was a strong fiscal conservative before the advent of the Tea Party and believes his penny-pinching reputation can help him win his old congressional seat again.

Sanford served in Congress in the 1990s before he became governor. He spent his remaining days in the governor's office traveling around the state, apologizing for the affair that cost him his marriage. Now he says it's time to move on.
